Corie's actions
Cultivating Communities
Stay on the Ground
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. digital/virtual attendance, vacation without air travel).
Enacting Equity
Shop at BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Disabled, & Women-Led Businesses!
I will shop at a small business owned or staffed by underrepresented members of my community.
Nourishing Food
Research the Benefits of Agricultural Biodiversity
I will spend 15 minutes each day researching how agricultural biodiversity positively impacts the food I eat.
Cultivating Communities
Collect Litter on a Plog / Plalk
Each day, I will go on a plog or plalk for minute(s) and collect items of litter.
Balancing Consumption
Needs Vs. Wants
Each day, I will practice a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Enacting Equity
Learn About Accessible & Equitable Voter Registration
I will spend 45 minutes learning about voter access and equity. And if applicable, I will register to vote, ask someone I trust to help me register, or help others register.
Balancing Consumption
What is Sustainable Fashion?
I will spend 60 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and adopt at least one sustainable fashion practice.
Balancing Consumption
Calculate My Carbon Footprint
I will calculate the carbon emissions associated with my household and consider how different lifestyle choices could reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the environment.
Balancing Consumption
Repair a Broken Item
I will repair at least one item that is broken, but is repairable. This might be items like garden tools, sewing machine, small appliances, electronics, clothing, and more.
Nourishing Food
Make Zero-Waste Meals
I will cook 2 meal(s) with zero-waste each day.
Nourishing Food
Forest-Friendly Foods
I will spend 60 minutes learning about palm oil, coffee, cocoa, and other products known to contribute to deforestation, and replace or remove them.
Regenerating Nature
Complete an Energy Audit
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, work, or other shared space to identify the next steps for saving energy.
Regenerating Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 60 minute(s) per day typically spent inside and often with electronics with quality time outside walking, exercising, enjoying the sunrise/sunset, gardening, journaling, observing nature, or practicing gratitude for nature.
Regenerating Nature
Calculate My Water Footprint
I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste.
Regenerating Nature
Volunteer in My Community
I will volunteer 8 hour(s) for a nature-based event or another opportunity to support my community.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Corie Traylor 10/25/2022 7:07 AMMy service leave had to be pushed out to next week - no volunteer hours for me this eco challenge, which is a major bummer! I will be working with PACC on trail maintenance/rebolting at a popular portland-area climbing spot. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCultivating Communities Stay on the GroundWhat was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?
Corie Traylor 10/21/2022 1:41 PMWe usually try to avoid air travel anyway because we like to travel with our dogs. So rather than fly up to Leavenworth to climb, we'll pack up our fur children and hit the road. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONRegenerating Nature Spend Time OutsideWhat are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time inside and on screens?
Corie Traylor 10/20/2022 1:04 PMAQI is so bad so it's a good thing we have lots of masks to wear while toodling around outside!
Implications for culture = less connection with the natural world, less connections with humans/community, less emotionally aware.... on and on... basically screens are bad. Go read a book outside. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCultivating Communities Collect Litter on a Plog / PlalkWhat was your experience like plogging, or engaging in another way to collect litter while being outside? Was there any item you collected that was unusual that you found?
Corie Traylor 10/19/2022 2:59 PMLots of halloween candy wrappers scattered around right now! Stay vigilant folks! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONRegenerating Nature Calculate My Water FootprintWhat is one way you will reduce your water use? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your water use?
Corie Traylor 10/17/2022 7:29 AMOne of our biggest issues is the need to find a way to generate power on our own home (Solar, etc). This won't be something we're able to do with our current home but we'll for sure do it with the next one! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption Repair a Broken ItemWhat did you fix and how did it go? Share a few pics if you can!
Corie Traylor 10/13/2022 12:05 PMRather than toss it out and buy a new one, I'm taking my oldest hay bale bag into the repair shop to have the busted zipper repaired! Saves me money buying a new one AND keeps a giant piece of canvas and plastic out of the landfill. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNourishing Food Make Zero-Waste MealsHow did you incorporate using an entire vegetable (skins, peels, tops, and stalks) during one of your meal preps? What's something new you're going to try that is a zero-waste meal practice?
Corie Traylor 10/12/2022 12:44 PMI went crazy with the food dehydrator! We always end up with soooo much extra produce in our garden every year and I never know what to do with it all - and not everyone can take extra tomatoes and zucchini from us! In an effort to prevent anything from going off before we could eat it, I've had the dehydrator going crazy today. Whole tomatoes, zukes, cucumbers, peppers - our house smells amazing! - all shrunken down and packed away for winter eats :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBalancing Consumption Calculate My Carbon FootprintWhat is one way you will reduce your carbon impact? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon impact?
Corie Traylor 10/06/2022 8:12 AMOur results were that we consume 37 tons CO2eq/year which is 49% Better than Average ... our biggest downfall is fuel bc of our Tundra. Upside is that 99% of the time we drive vs do air travel but I will try to increase the number of road trips we take in my crosstrek since it gets 2x (+) the fuel economy of the truck! -
Corie Traylor 10/05/2022 11:15 AMThese are so fun! Can't wait to see what we accomplish this time :)
