How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet? What fruits or vegetables did you try this week, and which was your favorite?

I have a fairly large garden and plan most of my summer meals around what is available. I will have sliced cucumbers for lunch and will have leftovers for dinner which have various veggies from my garden.

I enjoy these challenges because it makes me think outside the box on how I can better my personal participation in the environmental issues both internally to me and externally to the community.

I learn so much, not just from the actions but from reading on the feed about what others are doing.

The unrest and activity of protestors and activists causes environmental damage, emotional damage, and psychological damage. More change takes place when peaceful dialogue and exchange of cultural and ideological thoughts and ideas to reach consensus on all sides.

Make sure I bring shipping boxes to local food banks to help in their distribution efforts. Using boxes for the food distribution, especially cardboard, is more sustainable and less damage to the environment than plastic bags. Including the so called recycled bags.

Connecting with fellow gardeners to compare our efforts this summer as well as swapping seeds which avoids the continual purchasing of seed packets which increases the carbon footprint in these ways:

    1. No shipping containers or packages
    2. Better yield with locally sourced seeds
    3. Mental health boost as we encourage each other and just have fun.

I feel connected by gifting things to my neighbor, it often promotes people to give to others and starts a ripple effect.

I am cleaning up my garden and ensuring all non compostable items have been secured from the weather and elements to avoid soil pollution. I will leave all the spent plants in the ground to prevent soil errosion over winter and to allow the snow and cold to break down the plants providing green manure. In this way I am avoiding adding harmful chemicals to the soil.

If you could make one challenge for your community to bring more awareness of the human factor as it relates to the local environment, what would that be? My challenge would be to lessen the idle time of gas powered vehicles and tools
