The Eco-challenge is going pretty well but instead of the daily action of looking for things to donate, I think I need a weekend day or two to go through my things and find many things to donate at once.

    Nourishing Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

I'm not surprised that American households throw out $1,500 worth of food every year. My household is no different. It takes a lot of preplanning and follow through to buy the right amount of perishable food you need and use it before it goes bad. In my planning, I've started focusing more on perishable food that can be frozen if I don't get to it in time. I'd much rather that money go into my kids' 529 college investment accounts.

What is one way you will reduce your carbon impact? What is a practice you already have that helps you reduce your carbon impact?

I can reduce my carbon impact by making my old house more energy efficient. As part of this process, I've installed monitoring equipment that enables me to see real-time energy use throughout the house so I will learn what contributes to my energy use the most.

How can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?

To prevent myself from buying things, I've found the Marie Kondo question "Does this bring me joy?" to be really helpful.

There are a few things I can do to reduce my water use. I will replace my water heads/toilets with low flow versions when it is time to replace them. When my old dishwasher stops working, I will pick an efficient one. I will work more plant-based meals into my meal plans.
